A Gorgeous Night's Sleep

One of my favorite blogs,Wartime Housewife, (link) is a  friendly, chatty, and very honest series of interesting and/or hilarious anecdotes and discussions.( British Erma Bombeck?) Anyway, the other day, she was talking about Naps, daytime fatigue, etc.  That got me to thinking about the design side of the matter --  since sleeping usually happens in Bedrooms!

  •  The environment that should support any attempt to promote good sleep..
  •  Beauty of design is what makes walking into the bedroom a pleasure, and allows one to feel good at the end of the day.
  • A  really great quality mattress and the best bedding, of course.
  • And studies of lighting effects indicate the need for many of us to make some important adjustments.

Sleep-cycle related lighting needs are sometimes lacking even in the work of the very best. I mean, these gorgeous, amazing bedrooms!

Maybe the people who actually live in those rooms don't need the lighting because they are on their electronic devices before finally falling asleep.

Or maybe they secretly bring in flashlights or those mini lights sold at Barnes and Noble so they can read in bed... In which case, is there a convenient side table  or something where they keep the book, the glasses,or whatever?

I am PICKY about these things. Like when I see something like this!

We are all advised to get as much sun (or full-spectrum light) as possible by day, and as little light as possible by night, to set a good sleep cycle, etc etc etc.   Also,  I've just been reading about .....
A NEW, " worst thing we can do  before bed."  That would be looking at all of those back-lit electronic devices --  especially the  iPads , but also the  Kindles, computers, TV's,  etc. right before bed. The lighting can be keeping us awake. Reading a book or magazine is a great alternative, and that's where the soft, focused light comes in.

It's hard to stop!  Really, now I WILL go to sleep...

This bed is being used in the living room, which is quite nice. I would love naps here:
